Cats & Dogs 3: Paws Unite! heads home to Blu-ray just over a decade after the release of the the second sequel in the franchise.
Following the second sequel, a Great Truce was made. Cats and dogs have come together to form Furry Animals Rivalry Termination or, you guessed correctly, F.A.R.T. Some jokes are made and yes, they’re rather juvenile but it won’t distract us from the cute and cuddly friends on the screen. Of course, I’m mainly talking about border collie Roger (Max Greenfield). I’m a dog lover–it must be said. Roger isn’t a field agent at this point in time. Both Roger and cat neighbor Gwen (Melissa Rauch) happen to be based in the same building as their humans, Max (Callum Seagrum Airlie) and Zoe (Sarah Giles).
This franchise has been around since 2001 with the initial release of Cats & Dogs. Cats & Dogs: The Legend of Kitty Galore followed in 2010. With the current pace, one can only imagine that the fourth installment will be released in 2030. What I can say for certain about the third installment is that you don’t need to watch the first two films to catch up.
Director/executive producer Sean McNamara describes the multi-species film in the bonus features as “Gladiator with cats and dogs.”
Synopsis
It’s been 10 years since the creation of the Great Truce, an elaborate joint-species surveillance system designed and monitored by cats and dogs to keep the peace when conflicts arise. But when a tech-savvy villain hacks into wireless networks to use frequencies only heard by cats and dogs, he manipulates them into conflict, and the worldwide battle between cats and dogs is BACK ON. Now, a team of inexperienced and untested agents will have to use their old-school animal instincts to restore order and peace between cats and dogs everywhere.
