2020 World Series Champions: Los Angeles Dodgers, the official World Series film, arrives today on Blu-ray so that fans can relive the Fall Classic.
It’s not an unfair statement to say that this year was among the most unique for Major League Baseball. After baseball shut down in March, nobody knew if the season would ever restart let alone have a postseason. With outbreaks on the Florida Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals, the postseason felt more like a dream than reality. And even though the World Series took place at the end of October, it feels like more time has passed than just over a month’s time. Suffice it to say, this is 2020 where time is just a construct.
Vin Scully may have retired as a Los Angeles Dodgers broadcaster but his presence was missed during the 2020 World Series. His narration brings a much needed presence to the official film by adding his touch. It just would not be anything Dodgers-related for this year’s World Series without the Hall of Fame broadcaster. Scully was there in 1988 when they last won the championship–a series that included a memorable home run from Kirk Gibson. The 2020 win marks the seventh World Series in franchise history.
One thing to note about this particular film: media presence and access was also different this year. As such, the producers had to utilize the on-site crews with approved access in addition to the other available feeds. Footage is also limited to what is available. This is certainly what sets this year’s film apart from so many in years past.
In early February, Dodgers fans will be able to bring home the entire Fall Classic in an 8-disc set: 2020 World Series Collector’s Edition: Los Angeles Dodgers. You’ll get all six games of the Fall Classic plus NLDS Game 3 and NLCS Game 7.
