Gina Carano Must Be Fired From The Mandalorian

The Walt Disney Company has an obligation to fire actress Gina Carano from The Mandalorian following her Twitter activity.

I don’t take this lightly.  This is not only something I say as a Star Wars fan but I also feel an obligation to speak out as a Disney shareholder.  If Cara Dune is part of The Mandalorian‘s third season, it will make for some rather uncomfortable viewing.  Should Dune be brought back for season 3, the role should be recast.

A few years ago, former Disney CEO Robert Iger made the call to fire Roseanne Barr for her racist tweets.  Her known transphobia gave her an unfortunate free pass prior to the reboot.  Racism and transphobia are bad no matter which way you look at it.  Under the eyes of the law, holding such views will still allow you to hold elected office.  Participating in an insurrection against the government does not.  Mind you, Gina Carano didn’t physically participate but she did like tweets that supported those who did.  Her Twitter likes regarding Wednesday’s seditious act of treason against the government is more than enough to fire her.

Before anyone gets into this being a violation of the First Amendment.  The First Amendment does not apply to social media.  It doesn’t even apply to private companies.  The First Amendment applies to government restrictions on free speech.  It’s most telling when attorneys elected to Congress do not even recognize this aspect of the law–looking at traitor Josh Hawley (R-Missouri), who–along with Ted Cruz (R-Texas)–should be expelled from the United States Senate under the 14th Amendment.

Look at some of the things that Gina Carano has posted on Twitter.  What the actress writes should certainly be problematic for Disney.  Her transphobic views have really made it tough to watch the second season of The Mandalorian.  Knowing she boasts the same unfounded conspiracy theories as Donald Trump–a sitting president that just incited a treasonous act of sedition–is more than enough to fire her.  There is also no excuse for why Gina Carano has not been fired yet.  How can one enjoy the season finale knowing that she has these views?

The following screenshots alone should be more than enough justification to fire the actress.  The backlash certainly led to to unlike those tweets but the damage is done.  This isn’t some sort of middle-age moment that J.K. Rowling cited in liking transphobic tweets.  The truth about her transphobia came out in the process, permanently ruining the Harry Potter franchise for millions if not billions of fans.  But with this?  It wasn’t a surprise when you have seen her rhetoric on Twitter over the past few months–going as far as to sign up for a social media site for extremist right-wing voices.  Bob Chapek cannot put out that statement and then give a free pass to Gina Carano.

Take this tweet, for instance:

Please note that requiring ID is a form of voter suppression.  This is something that has long since been used to suppress Black voters.  This nation has a long history of suppressing Black voters–especially in the South–and it needs to stop.

Worse than this, the actress is openly against masks during the pandemic.  I’m sorry but anti-maskers are selfish and one of the main reasons why we are still in a pandemic.  I cannot enjoy a series when actress holds this view.  Look at what she tweeted in November:

Speaking of the pandemic, the actress is also mocking the Covid-19 vaccine.  She did so in a tweet that mocks mail-in voting.  Again, a statement similar to the same man that just incited an insurrection in the halls of Congress.

In light of comments made by Disney CEO Bob Chapek on Thursday, the studio has no choice.  Gina Carano must be fired.

Chapek writes in a statement:

“Yesterday was a sad and tragic day for our country, one unlike any other in our history. What we saw was an egregious and inexcusable assault on America’s most revered institution and our democracy. Thankfully, the democratic process that we hold dear ultimately prevailed. Now, more than ever, it is imperative that we come together as one nation – united by our shared values including decency, kindness, and respect for others. We should seize this opportunity, and move ahead with optimism and hope for a better, brighter future for all of America.”

What we saw taking place last Wednesday was not decency, kindness, or respect for others.  It was a treasonous act of sedition incited by a sitting president of the United States of America.  He incited his own followers through baseless and unfounded conspiracy theories.  Some of which includes unfounded allegations of widespread voter fraud.  The Department of Justice also did not find widespread voter fraud.  When Trump’s lawyers sought to overturn the election through the court system, they lost over 60 different times.  On the first Saturday of 2021, Trump called up Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to find the 11,780 votes to overturn Georgia’s election.  This is a felony.

Edited on February 10 to add a graphic of anti-Semitic story shared on Gina Carano’s Instagram page:

Another edit:

Lucasfilm announced that Gina Carano will no longer be involved with the Star Wars universe.  It’s a shame that it took this long but she needed to go.

The Mandalorian is exclusively available on Disney+.
