The U.S. Olympic Trials are underway as diving gives way to swimming on NBC as the start of the Summer Olympics in Tokyo inch closer.
It’ll be a weird looking out there and not see Michael Phelps during the Olympic Trials for the U.S. Swimming team. Phelps might not be a part of the meet but there are other fan favorites that are competing for the Olympics. Among the returning Olympians vying for a spot on Team USA:
- Katie Ledecky, a five-time Olympic gold medalist seeking to tie or break the all-time record for Olympic gold medals won by a U.S. woman (8)
- Caeleb Dressel, a two-time Olympic gold medalist
- Simone Manuel, a four-time Olympic Medalist
- Ryan Lochte, a 12-time Olympic medalist hoping to make his 5th team
- Ryan Murphy, a three-time Olympic medalist
Wave II takes over primetime for eight consecutive days starting tonight 5:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN and Peacock, and 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC from Omaha, Neb. NBC’s unprecedented 13 nights of primetime coverage of the Olympic Trials started on Saturday with live coverage of the men’s and women’s springboard and platform finals from Indianapolis, Indiana.
In the days to come:
- Track & field coverage runs from June 18-21 and June 24-27, featuring six nights of primetime on NBC.
- Gymnastics coverage takes place June 24-27 and culminates with the women’s night 2 live in primetime on NBC.
It all leads up to the Games of the XXXII Olympiad in Tokyo, Japan, which will take place July 23-Aug. 8.
