HBO Max announced the list of films, series, and specials that are coming and leaving the streaming service during December 2021.
(There have been some revisions since this was first published on November 19.)
“The Matrix Resurrections,”(12/22), the next film in the groundbreaking franchise that redefined a genre, reunites original stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss in the iconic roles they made famous, Neo and Trinity. The film will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures in theaters nationwide and on HBO Max via the Ad-Free plan on December 22, 2021; it will be available on HBO Max in 4K UHD, HDR10, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos (English only) on supported devices for 31 days from theatrical release.
An incredible collection of original programming arrives this December including the series premiere of the much anticipated Max Original “And Just Like That…” (12/9) the new chapter of the groundbreaking HBO series “Sex and the City,” from executive producer Michael Patrick King, follows Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) as they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s.

In “Ron’s Gone Wrong” (12/15), things go hilariously awry when Barney, a socially awkward middle-schooler, receives a malfunctioning, digitally connected device that’s supposed to be his “best friend out of the box.” In this action-packed animated story set against the backdrop of the social media age, a boy and his robot discover the wonderful messiness of true friendship. (The film will also stream on Disney+ the same day.)
Limited series “Landscapers” (12/6) also debuts in the month, starring Olivia Colman and David Thewlis. Inspired by real events, the limited series tells a unique love story involving a seemingly ordinary British couple who become the focus of an extraordinary investigation when two dead bodies are discovered in the back garden of a house in Nottingham. The month also brings limited drama series “Station Eleven” (12/16), reality competition series “Finding Magic Mike” (12/16), the highly anticipated second season of “Beforeigners”(12/23), animated series “Santa Inc.” (12/2) season one finale of “Gossip Girl” (12/2), the series finale of “Insecure” (12/26), and the season finale of “Succession” (12/12).
For viewers who missed them the first time around, “Space Jam: A New Legacy” (12/2), and “The Suicide Squad” (12/23) will return to HBO Max in December following their theatrical windows earlier this year.
For preschoolers, Cartoonito on HBO Max welcomes a charming new animated series, “Odo” (12/2). The new series welcomes kids ages three to five to a world full of possibilities as it teaches how to deal with setbacks in a meaningful way while promoting the development of self-efficacy and self confidence.

Music Box: Mr. Saturday Night, Documentary Premiere (HBO)
-
Brimming with the sights and sounds of the era and hearing from many of the key players at the time, MR. SATURDAY NIGHT details Robert Stigwood’s rise on the music scene in Britain in the 60s, and his years of cultural dominance in America as a manager, producer and taste-making genius. His crowning achievement was optioning a gritty New York Magazine article by Nik Cohn titled “Tribal Rites of the New Saturday Night” and taking on the leadership of Paramount Pictures who never quite believed in the “little disco movie.” In a prescient coup, he signed TV actor John Travolta and married the rhythmic dance music of the Bee Gees to the resulting movie. While often remembered as a beat-happy story of disco dancing, “Saturday Night Fever” captured the zeitgeist of disaffected youth struggling to break free of their milieu.
