Whoopi Goldberg Distorts Holocaust Again

Actress/comedian Whoopi Goldberg managed to distort the Holocaust again during the press tour to promote the UK release of Till.

Goldberg’s comments came during an interview with The Times. The article is paywalled but Times of Israel picked up on her comments. It isn’t uncommon for publicists to request beforehand that journalists not mention a topic. Maybe it’s time for Goldberg’s publicist to make sure that the Holocaust is off limits? It’s clear as day that Goldberg has not learned her lesson. This is most unfortunate but it’s not surprising after watching Goldberg double-down earlier this year on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. To be fair, the episode was probably taped before she posted an apology on social media. But again, the whole ordeal teaches the importance of Holocaust education. On that note, I encourage everyone to watch The U.S. and the Holocaust as soon as possible!

Goldberg once again referred to the Nazi genocide of Jews as being “white-on-white” violence rather than race. Again, she could not be more wrong as Adolf Hitler and the Nazis racialized Jews. They viewed Jews as others, which is something that Goldberg must have forgotten from the conversation earlier this year.

“Remember who they were killing first. They were not killing racial; they were killing physical. They were killing people they considered to be mentally defective. And then they made this decision,” she said.

I do applaud the interviewer for pushing back against Goldberg’s Holocaust distortion. Goldberg may not have intended to be antisemitic but Holocaust distortion falls under the IHRA definition of antisemitic.

When the interviewer noted that the Nazis viewed their victims as lesser races, Goldberg replied: “Yes, but that’s the killer, isn’t it?”

“The oppressor is telling you what you are,” she continued.” Why are you believing them? They’re Nazis. Why believe what they’re saying?”

Explaining that Jews are not identifiable as a race, she said: “It doesn’t change the fact that you could not tell a Jew on a street. You could find me. You couldn’t find them. That was the point I was making. But you would have thought that I’d taken a big old stinky dump on the table, butt naked.”

It’s upsetting that The View host hasn’t seemed to learn about the Holocaust and the Nazis racializing Jews. Something tells me that Jonathan Greenblatt and the ADL are going to be reaching out. I’m no longer logging into Twitter so it’s possible that the ADL chief has already said something about Whoopi Goldberg.

Update: Whoopi Goldberg has apologized for the latest round of comments.
