Mickey & Minnie 10 Classic Shorts – Volume 1 Arrives On Blu-ray, DVD

Mickey & Minnie 10 Classic Shorts – Volume 1 is now available for fans to bring home on a Blu-ray (+ Digital/DVD) Combo Pack.

The first volume gathers ten classic shorts together for the first time. Mickey and Minnie will also have all-new introductions for each short film. The collection runs a combined 83 minutes and audiences will now be able to watch the classic Steamboat Willie on Blu-ray in one of many releases celebrating Disney’s 100th anniversary in 2023. While the classic short film is available on Disney+, this is the first time it’s included with a number of other classics on Blu-ray. The fact that this is a first volume does imply that a second volume is in the works.

Where Steamboat Willie gets the technical credit for introducing Mickey Mouse, there were two silent films preceding the iconic film: Plane Crazy and The Gallopin’ Gaucho. Unfortunately, they were only previewed in theaters and didn’t get picked up for distribution thereafter. However, Disney reworked them for the new era of sound. Anyway, Disney’s Mickey Mouse series would last through 1953. Since this time, there were Mickey Mouse shorts released in 1983, 1990, 1995, and 2013.

Synopsis

Celebrate 100 magical years of Disney with this collectible compilation of animated shorts! Mickey and Minnie share their memories in new introductions to these 10 wonderful stories, which have entertained generations of children and adults alike. Included is the iconic Steamboat Willie, the first cartoon with synchronized sound, in which the character of Mickey Mouse was first introduced as a deckhand on a riverboat commanded by the tyrannical Captain Pete. Also included are Brave Little Tailor, featuring Mickey as a medieval tailor given a daunting task. In Mickey’s Delayed Date, the tardy mouse relies on his faithful pup Pluto to get him to a dance with Minnie. Hawaiian Holiday finds Mickey and his pals vacationing on a beautiful island. Then along with friends, Mickey and Minnie glide through a romantic date on a frozen river in On Ice.

Beyond the above five films, there are another five shorts available in the collection.

From what I can tell, the DVD is only included with the Blu-ray combo pack. It does not appear to be on sale as a separate disc. The collection includes a Digital code and that’s basically it.

While Mickey & Minnie 10 Classic Shorts – Volume 1 includes a small number shorts in the Walt Disney canon, there’s a missed opportunity to add on with additional bonus content.
