The trailer and key art for the upcoming Ahsoka, premiering this August, were unveiled during Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023.
The unveiling for the teaser trailer took place on Friday, with more casting announcements coming on Saturday. One might as well refer to the series as Star Wars Rebels: Season 5. Many of the characters make their transition to live-action. It’s very possible that Zeb could make an appearance since his character is now a pilot for the New Republic. Anything can happen but Rebels fans will finally have closure at last. There’s also zero sightings of Captain Rex in the trailer. In any event, his appearance would be quite the treat if it happens during the series.
Following appearances in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, Rosario Dawson stars in the title role. Set after the fall of the Empire, Ahsoka follows the former Jedi knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.
In addition to Dawson, Ahsoka stars Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla. The series is written by Dave Filoni, who executive produces alongside Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson, and Carrie Beck. Karen Gilchrist is co-executive producer.
In terms of casting, Star Wars fans officially learned who would be portraying Grand Admiral Thrawn–none other than Lars Mikkelsen. David Tennant is also reprising the role of Huyang. Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s casting as Hera Syndulla was also made official during Friday’s panel. It’s expected that Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) will have a role to play during the upcoming series. In any event, the Jedi appears by way of a hologram.
Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson), a Dark Jedi, and his apprentice, Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno), are allies to Thrawn. Diana Lee Inosanto will reprise her role as Morgan Elsbeth following The Mandalorian. Fans watching the trailer will notice that Hayden Christensen is also missing in action. The main question that I have is if he will appear in a flashback season or as a present-day Force ghost?
Looking at the trailer, it would not surprise me if the World Between Worlds plays a role. If you’re not familiar, please make sure to watch Rebels season 4 when you have a chance.
