Avengers: Endgame filmmaker Joe Russo had some fun at the expense of anti-Marvel filmmaker and Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese.
Anyone who watched the video had to know that Russo was being sarcastic with his comments. I think we’ve reached a point where whatever feud there is only exists in the heads of either Marvel or Scorsese fans. I’m not saying it’s all fans though so please don’t read too much into what I’m saying. What I am saying is that people need to just step back and take it down a notch. If Joe Russo wants to have some fun, then let him have fun. Do you really believe anyone would name their dog, Box Office?
More to the point, Scorsese’s previous film and his newest film are enjoying brief theatrical runs before audiences get an opportunity to watch from their homes. Three and a half hours is a lot of film and I know plenty of people that watched The Irishman as a mini-series. Will people be doing the same for Killers of the Flower Moon? Time will tell.
We all know how Scorsese feels about the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The theme park movies. Publicists should need to stop entertainment journalists from asking about it. The questions keep coming up in interviews because everyone knows that it is what will help them get click. I know this, you know this. Hell, it’s why I’m writing this piece right now. I need to run something, movies feel very trivial, and I’m having a hard time watching much of any films from home at the moment.
The video is not so much in response to the recent GQ profile. In any event, Russo made a video and uploaded to various social media accounts. It splices together previous footage with Scorsese directing his schnauzer, Oscar, to “show me sadness” before introducing his own schnauzer, Box Office. You can view the video below or open up the Instagram app on your phone.
Let Joe Russo have some fun. G-d knows how much we need humor and satire right now. Anything that can give us joy or bring light into the world.
