LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy Has Loads of Fun

LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy has some fun with the Star Wars canon by delivering the what-if that you didn’t know you needed.

SPOILER WARNING: I’m going to get deep into spoilers and easter eggs below the key artwork. Please exercise caution if you scroll down.

Sig Greebling (Gaten Matarazzo) is a run-of-the-mill nerf-herder. When Sig and his droid, Servo (Michael Cusack), find a Jedi temple on Fenessa, they change the entire galaxy as they knew it. Ironically, it comes shortly after Sid tells his friends about the history of their galaxy. You can tell the writers are certainly having some fun because he mentions Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) being grumpy. Unfortunately, Sid did not hear Jedi Bob’s (Bobby Moynihan) warning until it was too late. The damage was done because the cornerstone that tied the galaxy together was pulled out of its place. Jedi Bob explains why Sid, Servo, and himself are the only ones to remember the previous galaxy. It is because they were stuck in the Jedi Temple when the galaxy turned inside out. Will Sig be able to save the galaxy and restore it?

Fenessa is not the same planet that it used to be. Clone Troops have become back into service but they are in the form of Admiral Ackbar. Yesi Scala (Marsai Martin) still exists but she has no memory of Sig. As for Sig’s brother, Dev (Tony Revolori), he’s now a Sith Lord, Darth Devastator), and knows nothing of a brother. One can look at their relationship as being the LEGO Star Wars play on the Force dyad. Sig knows his history and for them to have anything of a chance, he seeks out…Beach Luke, only to find someone using their Force-building skills for cheating at pod-racing. Interestingly, Luke is wearing the necklace that Anakin Skywalker once gave to Padme Amidala. It begs the question of what happened.

Luke joins them on the search for the Jedi and gets a shocker of a family reunion with Jedi Vader (Matt Sloan) and Princess Leia. If Vader is one of the good guys now, why is it that Luke and Leia know nothing about him being their father? Furthermore, how did Padme meet Anakin with Jedi Masters Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi vanishing from the galaxy without a trace. I have so many questions about this universe!

Everything that you think you know about the Star Wars galaxy is about to change. Heroes become bad guys. Bad guys become heroes. Some folks completely vanish from the galaxy. This begs the question of who fights Jedi Vader if Obi-Wan Kenobi is no longer around. Can we also talk about the fact that characters long deceased during or shortly after Return of the Jedi are somehow still living in a post-The Rise of Skywalker world? Greedo shot his shot first so Han Solo and Princess Leia Organa never became a couple. As such, there’s no Ben Solo/Kylo Ren. As for Luke Skywalker, has having fun pod-racing on the water-planet that is Tatooine and drinking it up at the Mos Eisley Marina Cantina. After all, Old Ben wasn’t there to train him to become a Jedi.

At long last, Star Wars fans will see everybody’s favorite Gungan, Darth Jar Jar Binks (Ahmed Best). We all know he had to exist somewhere in the galaxy of the Star Wars multiverse. “Mesa going to hurt Yousa.” Oh, Jar Jar. This is a series that contains so many easter eggs full of fan service. There is something here for everyone, even fans of Darth Rey (Helen Sadler).

Like the LEGO Star Wars specials that have come before, LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy never ceases to amaze. The four episodes run just over 20 minutes each for a very quick binge. It’ll be over before you can call for your favorite bounty hunter turned babysitter, The Landolorian (Billy Dee Williams). The fact that it ends on a cliffhanger begs the question of if there will be more. I hope so…for the sake of the galaxy.
