Kamala Harris/Tim Walz 2024 – Presidential Endorsement

While a number of major newspapers are withholding presidential endorsements, Solzy at the Movies is endorsing Kamala Harris for President.

Shame on the Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, and USA Today. Newspapers have a duty to their readership in making an endorsement. Jeff Bezos can spin things anyway he wants but he is in the wrong. History will remember the newspaper owners and their cowardice. It is already impacting their pocketbooks because of subscribers choosing to end their subscriptions.

I’m not gonna beat around the bush here. If you’ve read my writing over the past several years, you probably already know where I stand. You know why I’m endorsing Kamala Harris for President. American democracy is at stake. I’ve seen enough anti-Donald Trump documentaries to know that we cannot return a fascist back to the White House. He has shown us what he stands for. Look no further than his actions on and leading up to January 6, 2021. Who is to say that he would not make the same decisions all over again?

There is a lot at stake next Tuesday and we have a choice between democracy and fascism. Make no mistake, what we saw at Madison Square Garden on Sunday was no different than 1939. It was fascism and there is no other way to describe it. Ask yourself why former Trump officials and former Republicans in Congress are voting for Kamala Harris. Lev Parnas knows exactly what Donald Trump represents–he even took the fall for him. They know that Donald Trump cannot return to the White House. He is the same man spreading the Big Lie. He is the same man who went on and on about Stopping the Steal. Trump is responsible for inciting a seditious insurrection against American democracy and we need to hold him accountable for his actions. It is up to us because the U.S. Senate and U.S. Supreme Court did not do their jobs.

A number of people have been blinded by Trumpism. They are so loyal to Trumpism that they cannot see the fascism and antisemitism staring them directly in the face. I’m a Democrat and am very consistent in calling out antisemitism on both sides of the spectrum. I wish I could say the same thing about Jewish conservatives. But more often than not, they are consistently giving right-wing antisemitism a free pass. Listen, I care about my family and friends in Israel. At the end of the day, Israel is a bipartisan issue–in theory, it should be but J.D. Vance is among a number of legislators voting against sending aid to Israel. We all know that a Trump-Vance administration would side with Putin and turn their back on Ukraine.

I also care about my own rights as a transgender American–rights that would be at stake should Trump return. His anti-trans ads that have aired during the World Series are a disgrace and both Fox and MLB should be ashamed for airing them. If people truly care about me like they say they do, they would not vote for someone that doesn’t have my best interests at heart, either as a Jewish-American or transgender American. The fact is simple: Donald Trump is only in it for himself. He only cares about power. He’ll turn his back on Israel whenever it no longer becomes convenient for him.

If you do not want to take my word for it, listen to former Congressman Adam Kinzinger (A bigger excerpt of Adam Kinzinger’s speech can also be seen in #Untruth: The Psychology of Trumpism.):

“Whatever your politics, whatever you think about the outcome of the election, we as Americans must all agree on this: Donald Trump’s conduct on January 6 was a supreme violation of his oath of office and a complete dereliction of his duty to our nation.

“It is a stain on our history. It is a dishonor to all those who have sacrificed and died in service of our democracy….The forces that Donald Trump ignited that day have not gone away.

“The militant, intolerant ideologies, the militias, the alienation and the disaffection, the weird fantasies and disinformation. They’re all still out there. Ready to go. That’s the elephant in the room. But if January 6 has reminded us of anything, I pray it has reminded us of this: laws are just words on paper….

“Oaths matter more than party tribalism or the cheap thrill of scoring political points. We the people must demand more of our politicians and ourselves. Oaths matter. Character matters. Truth matters. If we do not renew our faith and commitment to these principles, this great experiment of ours, this shining beacon on a hill, will not endure.”

Vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. Please. Our nation cannot handle another four years of Trump–hell, it might not even survive.
