Let’s be honest. Not all of us have seen the Star Wars spinoffs. Watching the main trilogy movies was enough to understand the friction between the Empire and the Alliance. Although the sequels and prequels have gained mixed reviews from the audience, the introduction of iconic and talented characters was appreciated by all.
All of us are familiar with the journey of Anakin Skywalker, Luke Skywalker, probably all Skywalkers, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, and Emperor Palpatine. These characters have stolen the space limelight for their, good and bad, power shenanigans.
Looking past the famous Jedi and Sith, Star Wars is filled with inspiring non-force characters that almost tilted the galaxy off its axis, yet are not highlighted enough to the audience’s liking. Today, we will explore the seven underrated Star Wars characters that might have a
bigger fanbase than the Skywalkers and Darths – shockingly!
Cassian Andor
Although the whole of Rogue One is impressive and their courage is awe-inspiring for standing up and vouching for a change in the galaxy. Cassian Andor hits differently because, in unison with his unit, Cassian brings a revolutionary meaning to the Rebel’s actions.
Most fans disapprove of the way, Cassian keeps his head down, trying to go through the Empire’s rule unnoticed. The truth is he is a smart guy, who is aware of what is going on. Cassien remembers the hurt, the Empire has inflicted on his Elders, destroying his home. In his pursuit to locate his sister, Andor is plotting revenge against the Empire. That is why he took Luthen’s offer, killed Skeen, and betrayed Vel, making him a resourceful member and a reliable spy.
Captain Rex
Despite being as influential as Commander Cody and Captain Phasma, Captain Rex is pushed to the background in The Clone Wars. Unlike the other clone troopers, he is the best character arc because by the end of season 1, he allied with the good side and did everything in his power to help create the underground escape route for the defected and rebel clones after Order 66.
Besides, the captain was a good friend to Ahsoka saving her life. He quickly realized that blinding following orders does not make him a good captain. He went from a stern, stony character to a helpful friendly soldier, making amends for his past mistakes.
Ahsoka Tano
Ahsoka was not always famous. Even now, after the release of Ahsoka, fans are still ambiguous about her role after declaring independence from the Force. She was an underrated character while she trained under Anakin Skywalker—so much so that she was betrayed and overlooked. Ahsoka’s hurt pushed her to separate from the Jedi ways and forge an independent path. Her white-bladed lightsabers, which she later adopted, reflect this choice; they symbolize her neutrality and independence from the Jedi Order, as well as her commitment to a balanced path. Her later life is filled with protecting the weak and helping the Jedi indirectly, showing resilience and the good in her.
Cad Bane
Cad Bane is far more ferocious and cunning than Darth Vader and Boba Feet yet not credited enough. Those who are fans of the character know about his badass reputation from The Book of Boba Fett‘s Pyke Syndicate Tatooine scene, in addition to The Clone Wars series.
Cad Bane also known as the space cowboy, among the fans, has won over the dark side lovers for his age-old fighting tricks, and hidden mischief that survived him through the Clone Wars and Empire’s rise and fall. His limited yet memorable screentime has declared Jim a resourceful bounty hunter who commanded every scene he was a part of.
Max Rebo
Max Rebo is not only interesting to look at, but his character looks like it would be fun and savage. Much-needed humor is required in the dark times of the Empire. Max Rebo is a musician who appeared in the nightclubs and backdrops of Jabba the Hutt businesses. Apart from a few seconds of blended appearance, not much is known about Rebo. Fans would like to know more about the history, and origin of the music band and the ethnicity of the fantastical species Rebo is!
Plo Koon
Plo Koon remains fans’ forever favorite Jedi Order warrior and leader of the Clone Battalion, Wolf Pack. despite his scary looks Plo Koon is a gentle, disciplinary Jedi who recruited Ahsoka into the Jedi Order. Although Ahsoka was assigned to Anakin Skywalker, Plo Koon kept tabs on Ahsoka, inquiring about her progress and well-being.
The Phantom Meenace and Revenge of the Sith were glorious times for the Jedi before he was betrayed by the clone and shot down. Plo Koon remained loyal to the Jedi Order defending the rule and supporting the rebellion during the dark galactic age.
Asajj Ventress
Asajj Ventress has a similar story to Anakin Skywalker in the matter of her temptation to the dark side and redemption to restore the balance in the galaxy. Not only that, Asajj, a character of tragic beginning and end, has tugged at the hearts of fans because all she wanted was to belong. She is a relatable character fans wish would get her TV series instead of staying in books.
Conclusion
There are so many Star Wars characters that fans would love to explore. Their background stories, origins, and progression would be a big hit. As vast as this multimedia space is, by now, every character should get a chance. Thanks to spinoffs like Rebels, Ahsoka and The Bad Batch, enthusiasts learned a lot about the hidden Star Wars gems.
