Despite what the convicted felon and his inner circle believes, there should be no mistake about it: trans rights are human rights.
Is it too late to return 2025 to sender? Other than hostages beginning to be returned home to Israel, there is absolutely nothing positive about the year. It is not an understatement to say that the transphobic executive orders have triggered a depression. Put it this way: I opted to cover a few Jewish film festivals this month in lieu of applying for the virtual 2025 Sundance Film Festival. Had I applied for Sundance, I would have gotten zero films watched since the online portion kicked in. Depression, more or less kicked in on Sunday.
There is zero reason for this administration, let alone Republicans, to be attacking trans rights. The irony of it all is a line from the Holocaust Remembrance Day Statement, which of course didn’t get released until two hours left on January 2027:
And we declare the timeless truth that every human being is a child of G-d and inherently worthy of dignity and respect.
Why is it that transgender Americans are not worthy of the same dignity and respect? The only thing that any of us should take away from such a statement is that the insurrectionist and his administration do not view transgender Americans as human. In fact, they are doing something much worse: viewing us as subhuman. They attacked trans rights during his first administration no differently than they are doing two weeks into his new one.
Since January 20, 2025, the convicted felon has targeted trans rights by way of the following:
- Federal documents including passports, visas, Global Entry cards
- Transgender inmates in prison
- Restrooms in federal buildings and spaces, including national parks
- Rights under the Civil Rights Act of 1964
- Rescinded Biden Administration executive orders
- 13988 (January 20, 2021)
- 14004 (January 25, 2021)
- 14020 and 14021 (March 8, 2021)
- 14075 (June 15, 2022)
- Rescinded previously issued guidance from the Department of Education, Department of Justice, and other federal agencies impacting trans rights
- Terminated DEI positions
- Banned transgender Americans from serving in the military because the convicted felon is of the belief that being trans “conflicts with a soldier’s commitment to an honorable, truthful, and disciplined lifestyle, even in one’s personal life.”
- For as pro-Israel as this administration claims to be, trans Americans have way less rights than trans Israelis because the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) does not view being trans as a disqualifying condition of serving.
- Similarly, trans Israelis have access to gender-affirming care in the public health system, including publicly funded surgeries.

- Targeting transgender youth and access to gender-affirming healthcare
- WPATH standards prohibit surgeries for anyone under 18 but again, Republicans widely believe that something that isn’t happening…is happening.
- The admin, however wrongly, believes World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) to be “junk science”
- The admin, again, is wrong and they know it.
- The admin, however wrongly, believes World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) to be “junk science”
- Making matters worse, the admin raised the age of children to be under 19 years of age. What this means is that any surgeries and such that would have happened upon turning 18 are no longer allowed until turning 19, if at all. We do not know the extent of how much trans rights will be impacted in public or private healthcare.
- I’ve already heard that New York University has cancelled trans surgeries and is no longer starting any new clients on HRT.
- Banning Medicaid and Medicare from covering gender-affirming care for trans youth.
- Medicare has a minimum age of 65 years old so somebody did not do their research at all.
- Banning all federal coverage of gender-affirming care for children of federal employees using TRICARE, Federal Employee Health Benefits (FEHB) or Postal Service Health Benefits (PSHB) programs.
- WPATH standards prohibit surgeries for anyone under 18 but again, Republicans widely believe that something that isn’t happening…is happening.
- Banning trans youth from social transitions in school, including restrooms and locker rooms.
History has shown us what happens when a government uses dehumanizing rhetoric towards a segment of the population. Newsflash: it never ends well. If you want my opinion, the transphobic executive orders attacking trans rights are no different than the Nuremberg race laws that targeted Jews in Germany during the Holocaust. I’ve already said during an interview that what’s happening to trans rights in Fascist America is like 1930s Germany all over again.
