Jurassic World Rebirth Releases First Trailer

Three years after Jurassic World Dominion, a new era is born when Jurassic World Rebirth makes its way into theaters in July. The last three films made over $1 billion at the global box office. Universal describes this film as taking the series in an “ingenious new direction.” Watch the trailer here.

It’s certainly not surprising to see another Jurassic film being released in theaters. When the last film was released, I remember interviews suggesting that it’s only the end of the Jurassic era. Obviously, I’m curious to see Jurassic World Rebirth and if it’s a one-off or launches a new trilogy altogether. Who would have thought back in 1993 that we would have a total of seven movies almost 30 years later? The fact that original screenwriter David Koepp is on board is exciting enough, especially word having it that he’s bringing in scenes from Michael Crichton’s book that have yet to make their way into a film.

Action superstar Scarlett Johansson, Emmy and SAG nominee Jonathan Bailey and two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali lead the cast of the new action-packed chapter. What we know about the film is that an extraction team races to the most dangerous place on Earth, an island research facility for the original Jurassic Park, inhabited by the worst of the worst that were left behind. Could this be Isla Sorna or another island not previously seen in the franchise. Also starring in the film are Rupert Friend and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. Rogue One‘s Gareth Edwards directs from a script by original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp. The original film is based on Michael Crichton’s book.

While it will be three years between films, the timeline sees Jurassic World Rebirth taking place five years after the previous sequel. The planet’s ecology is generally inhospitable to dinosaurs. The remaining dinosaurs are located in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures across land, sea and air within that tropical biosphere hold, in their DNA, the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.

Academy Award nominee Johansson stars as skilled covert operations expert Zora Bennett, contracted to lead a skilled team on a top-secret mission to secure the genetic material. When Zora’s operation intersects with a civilian family whose boating expedition was capsized by marauding aquatic dinos, they all find themselves stranded on a forbidden island that had once housed an undisclosed research facility for Jurassic Park. There, in a terrain populated by dinosaurs of vastly different species, they come face-to-face with a sinister, shocking discovery that has been hidden from the world for decades.

What we know about the rest of Jurassic World Rebirth‘s cast:

  • Mahershala Ali: Duncan Kincaid, Zora’s most trusted team member
  • Jonathan Bailey: Dr. Henry Loomis, paleontologist
  • Rupert Friend: Martin Krebs, Big Pharma representative
  • Manuel Garcia-Rulfo: Reuben Delgado, the father of the shipwrecked civilian family.

Luna Blaise, David Iacono, and Audrina Miranda co-star as Reuben’s family. Jurassic World Rebirth also features Philippine Velge, Bechir Sylvain, and Ed Skrein as members of Zora and Krebs’ crews.

Jurassic World Rebirth is produced by Oscar nominee Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley, both longtime Jurassic franchise producers and of last summer’s blockbuster, Twisters. Steven Spielberg, Denis L. Stewart and Jim Spencer serve as executive producers.
