The Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild (MUAHS, IATSE Local 706) are announcing the winners of the 12th Annual MUAHS Guild Awards. Val Chmerkovskiy and Jenna Johnson are hosting the awards show, which is being presented by L’Oréal Groupe and Giovanni Eco Chic Beauty. You can stream tonight’s ceremony on YouTube.
Winners are being honored during an awards gala on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel. The MUAHS Awards represent a spectrum of outstanding achievements in 23 categories of make-up and hair styling artistry in motion pictures, television, commercials, music videos and live theater, including Broadway and international productions.
As previously announced, Todd McIntosh, Emmy-winning make-up artist, known for his work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Memoirs of a Geisha, and Peter Tothpal, award-winning hair stylist known for his work on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, will receive the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Awards. Research Council of Makeup Artists (RCMA Makeup) are being honored with the prestigious Vanguard Award. Allison Janney is being honored with the Distinguished Artisan Award
Tonight’s awards show will also serving as a fundraiser to raise funds for all the IATSE union members impacted by the recent Los Angeles wildfires. Local 706 is supporting the IATSE Walsh Di Tolla Spivak Foundation.
Unlike other awards shows, the MUAHS have started with the awards honorees before moving onto the winners of the competitive awards. Dulé Hill teased that Allison Janney wasn’t able to attend but the actress decided to impersonate Joan Collins and appeared dressed as Alexis Carrington from Dynasty.
An In Memoriam tribute plays on the screen before moving into the feature film and television series/specials winners.
How do the MUAHS impact the Oscars in March? Both Wicked and The Substance took home a pair of awards tonight and will be competing in the same category at the Oscars. They’ll be competing against A Different Man, Nosferatu, and Emilia Pérez. Oscars voting comes to an end on February 18 so if voters haven’t submitted their ballots yet, tonight’s show might possibly impact their votes.
