2025 Writers Guild Awards Winners Announced

The Writers Guild of America East (WGAE) and Writers Guild of America West (WGAW) have announced the 2025 Writers Guild Awards winners.

The awards honor outstanding achievement in screenwriting, television, new media, news, radio/audio, and promotional writing during 2023. Winners are being honored tonight at the 2025 Writers Guild Awards dual coast ceremonies at the Edison Ballroom in New York City and The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills (Los Angeles) on Saturday, February 15, 2025. Joel Kim Booster is hosting the WGA West ceremony while Roy Wood Jr. is taking care of matters at the WGA East ceremony.

Previously announced honorary award recipients include:

  • Scott Frank — Ian McLellan Hunter Award for Career Achievement
  • Bill Lawrence — Herb Sargent Award for Comedy Excellence
  • Kathy McGee – Richard B. Jablow Award
  • Vince Gilligan – Paddy Chayefsky Laurel Award for Television Writing Achievement
  • David Lynch – Laurel Award for Screenwriting Achievement
  • RaMell Ross and Joslyn Barnes – Paul Sevlin Award

In what is probably going to be a surprise to most, the biggest film awards of the night were announced very early. This is in part because of the BAFTA Awards taking place this weekend in London. A number of feature film screenplays were declared ineligible for the 2025 Writers Guild Awards. We’ll see what, if any impact this has on the Oscars in March. But as of now, it’s looking like Sean Baker is going to have himself a big night on Oscar Sunday.
