Max subscribers can breath a sigh of relief as the B/R Sports and CNN Max content will be available for Standard and Premium subscribers at no extra cost. As of now, today’s announcement applies to U.S. subscribers only.
When it was originally announced, the plan had bee for a B/R Sports Add-On to become available to Max subscribers at an additional cost. Warner Bros. Discovery is no longer pursuing this path at the moment. Let’s face it: streaming costs are growing increasingly expensive and as much as viewers love sports, having to pay more at a time of rising inflation would not be a popular move. In fact, it would likely drive viewers away from the platform. That’s my two cents.
“Over the last year plus, we had the opportunity to assess how users engage with sports and news on Max, and we’ve been actively involved in exploring ways to evolve the sports distribution ecosystem in the U.S. We believe that the best place for that content for now is within the Standard and Premium tiers,” said JB Perrette, CEO and President of Global Streaming and Games, WBD. “This update ensures that subscribers can continue to enjoy that coveted access within Max, while also enabling ongoing investment in our premium sports and news portfolio.”
Beginning on March 30, B/R Sports and CNN Max will no longer be available on the Basic with Ads tier. Viewers who wish to retain access to sports and news can visit the Max Help Center for more information. As a heads up to college basketball fans, the 2025 NCAA Tournament south and midwest regional finals are going to be taking place on March 30. Please keep this in mind.
