A GRAMMY Salute to Earth, Wind & Fire Live: The 21st Night of September Airs on CBS

The latest GRAMMY special, A GRAMMY Salute to Earth, Wind & Fire Live: The 21st Night of September, celebrates the nine-time GRAMMY-winning group.

Legendary band and one of the best-selling artists of all time, Earth, Wind & Fire take to the Hollywood Bowl stage for a once-in-a-lifetime musical event, joined by the world-renowned LA Philharmonic, featuring guests celebrating the nine-time GRAMMY-winning group’s enduring legacy, cultural impact and timeless sound. Stevie Wonder, Jonas Brothers, Jon Batiste and Janelle Monáe are among the artists set to make special appearances.

Paramount+ Premium plan subscribers will have access to stream the concert special live via the live feed of their local CBS affiliate on the service, as well as on-demand. Paramount+ Essential subscribers will not have the option to stream live, but will have access to on-demand the day after the special airs.

The current members of Earth, Wind & Fire are:

  • Verdine White – bass, backing vocals (1969–1984; 1987–present)
  • Philip Bailey Sr. – lead vocals, conga, percussion, kalimba (1972–1984; 1987–present)
  • Ralph Johnson – percussion, backing vocals (1972–1984; 1987–present); drums (1972–1984)
  • B. David Whitworth – percussion, vocals (1996–present)
  • Myron McKinley – keyboards, musical director (2001–present)
  • John Paris – drums, vocals (2001–present)
  • Philip Bailey Jr. – vocals, percussion (2008–present)
  • Morris O’Connor – lead guitar, vocals (2008–present)
  • Serg Dimitrijevic – rhythm guitar, vocals (2012–present)

I will update with the set list as the latest GRAMMY concert special airs on CBS. Their July 2-4 performances were recorded at the Hollywood Bowl. Philip Bailey Sr.’s introduction of the band came from the July 3 taping as Ralph Johnson’s birthday is on July 4. The best clue to figure out which shows the individual songs came from is by seeing if Verdine White is playing bass. White was recovering from recent surgery and only played the first three songs and “September” during the July 2-3 shows. Raymond McKinley stepped in as bassist during those shows. White appears to have been back for the entirety on July 4.

Fan comments were recorded during the shows in Los Angeles. The tribute performances were recorded elsewhere and edited into the special.
