Hanna-Barbera’s Emmy-winning The Huckleberry Hound Show: The Complete Series has been made available in its entirety on Blu-ray.
Revisit one of animation’s most charming hound dogs with this definitive collection of Hanna-Barbera’s classic series, The Huckleberry Hound Show. This anthology features all 68 half-hour episodes, organized according to the studio’s original broadcast records, just as they aired over the show’s four seasons. Fully restored from 4K scans of the original 35mm negatives, Huckleberry Hound has never looked sharper.
Audiences of all ages fell for this cool, witty canine with his signature slow southern drawl. Alongside Huck, viewers can enjoy the antics of Pixie and Dixie (and their adversary, Mr. Jinks the cat), as well as early appearances by Yogi Bear and his loyal sidekick Boo Boo, and later favorites like the irrepressible Hokey Wolf—each starring in their own memorable segments.
This collection preserves the episodes exactly as they were originally broadcast, complete with original bumpers, bridges, and rarely seen vintage commercials featuring the series’ beloved characters. A tribute to the legendary Hanna-Barbera team and voice talents such as Daws Butler and Don Messick, this set lets fans experience the timeless adventures of Huck, Yogi, and friends just as they first captivated television audiences, proving that their clever, enduring humor remains as entertaining as ever.
The Huckleberry Hound Show became the first series to take home an Emmy Award for animation when it earned a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Children’s Program. But more than that, the landmark series legitimized animation for television and turned Hanna-Barbera into a household name. When one thinks of animation during the Golden Age of Hollywood, a few names are the first that come to mind: Walt Disney, Looney Tunes, William Hanna, and Joseph Barbera. Mel Blanc and Daws Butler, too, if one is thinking about the voice actors who came to prominence.
Yogi Bear’s popularity grew to the point that Hanna-Barbera gave him and Boo Boo their own series in 1961, replacing their segment with Hokey Wolf and Ding-A-Ling during the 1960-61 season. The Flintstones would make its debut in 1960 and The Jetsons would come two years later. The Hanna-Barbera catalogue truly speaks for itself. A number of titles have recently made their way onto Blu-ray by way of the Warner Archive Collections. No matter where they stand in terms of their legacy, animation fans are all the better for it as new audiences can now discover these classic series.
