Sisu: Road to Revenge, the wall-to-wall cinematic action event and sequel to the sleeper hit, continues the journey of “the man who refuses to die.” The film is currently available to buy or rent through digital retailers. Sisu: Road to Revenge will be available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on February 17, 2026.
In the wake of World War II, Finland has ceded Karelia to the Soviet Union as part of a peace treaty in 1944. Two years later, legendary Finnish ex-commando Aatami Korpi (Jorma Tommila), known as “the man who refuses to die,” crosses into the occupied territory where his family was slaughtered during the war. After dismantling his old home and loading it onto a truck, Aatami sets out to rebuild it somewhere safe, honoring their memory. His presence draws Soviet attention, and the KGB releases Igor Draganov (Stephen Lang)—the man responsible for the murders—from a Siberian prison, promising him freedom if he eliminates Aatami.
Draganov intercepts Aatami en route to the Finnish border, but Aatami kills the squad and spares Draganov, unaware of his true identity. Draganov responds by unleashing ground and air forces, eventually forcing Aatami and his truck off a cliff into the sea. Surviving once again, Aatami salvages the remnants of his home, fashions a raft, and makes landfall near an abandoned tank. Using dynamite, he launches the tank through a Soviet checkpoint, only to be gravely wounded and captured. To survive imprisonment, he embeds a knife blade into his own injured flesh.
Transported by train toward Siberia, Aatami is tortured as Draganov reveals his role in the murder of Aatami’s family. Rage fuels Aatami’s escape, and he cuts a bloody path through the train as Draganov murders his own handlers in pursuit of freedom. When Aatami activates a ballistic missile onboard, the conflict escalates into a final showdown. Though Draganov nearly prevails, Aatami launches the live missile into him, ending the feud. With vengeance complete, Aatami returns home, rebuilding with quiet help from fellow Finns—his survival now matched by solidarity.
When we last saw Korpi, the legendary Finnish Army commando–turned–gold prospector was defending himself from being robbed and murdered by a Waffen-SS platoon. To say it was a bloody good time would be an understatement. Sisu: Road to Revenge is just as bloody, and it makes one wonder whether Jalmari Helander has enough left in the tank to write another film and turn this into an outright trilogy. Mind you, Tommila isn’t getting any younger, and there’s already been a great deal asked of him across the two films.
When Lionsgate released the first film in North America, they screened it for press in theaters or made screener links available. Strangely, Sony didn’t screen Sisu: Road to Revenge as widely for press. If they screened it locally, I never received an invite, nor was it sent to any of the critics’ groups I’m part of. I wish I could have experienced the sequel on the big screen the same way I did its predecessor. At a brisk 89 minutes, the film delivers nonstop action throughout its runtime, with no shortage of stunts or set pieces.
We now have two Sisu films about “the man who refuses to die.” While they could easily be one-note, there’s more than enough action here to keep audiences entertained. Last time it was the Nazis; this time it’s the Red Army. If there’s a third outing, who knows. What is surprising is that Sisu earned $11 million worldwide in 2023 while topping out at 1,006 theaters domestically, way less than I thought it had made. The sequel currently sits under $8 million worldwide and is unlikely to match the original’s $7.2 million domestic haul, which makes Sony’s decision to double the theater count all the more disappointing given the underwhelming performance.
