All 52 episodes of Lippy the Lion and Hardy Har Har: The Complete Series have been packaged together on Blu-ray for the first time by way of the Warner Archive Collection. The episodes are sourced from new 1080p HD masters from 4K scans of the best preservation elements. Lippy the Lion and Hardy Har Har is just one of numerous Hanna-Barbera animated series being remastered for Blu-ray. I expect it’s just a matter of time before we see a Yogi Bear collection.
The 1962-63 series is presented in a 2-disc set in a 1.33:1 aspect ratio with side mattes and a DTS-HD MA 2.0 MONO soundtrack. The total running time is 267 minutes. For those new to Lippy the Lion and Hardy Har Har, episodes run just about 5 minutes a piece, making them no different from the theatrical shorts playing theaters around this time. You can watch all 52 episodes in a single day or split them out over the course of a few days. Unfortunately, there are no bonus features included with the collection.
Lippy the Lion and Hardy Har Har joined Wally Gator and Touché Turtle and Dum Dum in airing as part of The Hanna-Barbera New Cartoon Series syndicated block. All three series are available on Blu-ray.
Synopsis
Talk about odd couples…The zippy, happy-go-lucky Lippy the Lion (Daws Butler) is always looking for action. Hardy Har Har (Mel Blanc) is a hangdog, hapless hyena who never laughs. So, naturally the pair are inseparable. Constantly on the lookout for the next big score, the always-optimistic Lippy leads a skeptical Hardy into a multitude of misadventures despite Hardy’s “worry-wartin.” Lippy’s all sunny side up, while Hardy’s trademark refrain of “oh dear, oh my” provides the comic counterpoint to all their extraordinary exploits, which travel from the Wild West and deserted isles to country clubs and racetracks. No matter the time or place, you can count on these two to maneuver into desperate danger each and every time!
