Starring five Oscar-winning actors in a saga of wealth, violence, and star-crossed love, The Valley of Decision was released on Blu-ray by way of the Warner Archive Collection in December.
The script was based on Marcia Davenport’s 1942 novel of the same name. The Valley of Decision earned two Oscar nominations: Best Actress in a Leading Role (Greer Garson) and Best Music, Scoring of a Dramatic or Comedy Picture. Garson’s nomination was the sixth in her career and her fifth consecutive Oscar nomination, tying her with Bette Davis for a record that still stands today.
Synopsis
Steel separates 1873 Pittsburgh into rich and poor, master and worker, powerful and powerless. On one side is Paul Scott, the progressive son of a steel mill owner. On the other is Mary Rafferty, daughter of an embittered laborer who was crippled in a mill accident. When Mary takes a post as a housemaid at the Scott mansion, she and Paul fall desperately in love. But a bloody strike may tear the city—and the lovers apart.
