The Looney Tunes Platinum Collection Vol. 2 is a re-released collection of 50 classic shorts remastered and presented in a stunning audio and visual experience. While the collection came out on Blu-ray last summer, it is a reprinting of a previously released collection. Both this and Looney Tunes Platinum Collection Vol. 1 were released again on Blu-ray. I don’t know if there are plans to re-release Vol. 3 but we’ll see.

Warner Bros. sure knows how to package a collection. Much like with the first volume, a number of these shorts were previously packaged as part of earlier collections. They have the entire Wabbit Season trilogy along with a trio of shorts featuring Bugs Bunny and Cecil Turtle that no doubt owes its existence to The Tortoise and the Hare. The Aesop fable was bound to be spoofed by Looney Tunes in its own way. Not surprisingly, they followed up Tortoise Beats Hare with Tortoise Wins by a Hare and Rabbit Transit.

Looney Tunes Platinum Collection Vol. 2 Disc 1 focuses on fan favorite characters Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and Porky Pig. Disc 2 is where we get the one-shot classics, Cecil Turtle, Nasty Canasta, Beaky Buzzard, and A. Flea. But if this isn’t enough, there are plenty of more goodies on Disc 3, including documentaries and bonus shorts.

It’s fun to see how the animation changes for each character as they appear in the various shorts. While they eventually progressed to their defined look, it wasn’t always that way. Bugs Bunny didn’t look the same in the earlier shorts in which he appeared as he did in later shorts. That’s a credit to the animators for continually evolving as the characters evolved. For instance, Tortoise Wins by a Hare is the first to feature Robert McKimson’s design of Bugs Bunny.
