Oscars: Nominations for the 92nd Academy Awards

John Cho and Issa Rae announced the 92nd Oscars nominations from the David Geffen Theater at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.

There’s a lot to be said about the upcoming Oscars, taking place on February 9, 2020.  For starters, not a single women director was deemed worthy of being one of the five best directors.  This is unfortunate when you have strong contenders such as Greta Gerwig, Marielle Heller, Lulu Wang, and Olivia Wilde.  Maybe its time for the Oscars to start considering a category for Best First Feature?

Let’s talk about Ruth E. Carter’s costume designs for Dolemite Is My Name.  Last year’s Oscar winner should have been a shoe-in for this year’s Oscars!

As for as the nominated acting performances go, it’s another year for Oscars So White.  This is really unfortunate when you have the likes of Eddie Murphy, Alfre Woodard, Lupita Nyong’o available to nominate!

The Academy is doing their best to diversify but it’s clear the the old guard still has a majority say in who gets nominated for the Oscars.  This needs to change.
