Barb and Star Go To Vista Del Mar, the long awaited follow-up to Bridesmaids, is now available for audiences to watch on Blu-ray and DVD.
It’s no joke that Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo gave us one of the funniest films of the 21st century. Of course, I’m talking about Bridesmaids. When I learned they were finally writing another film, I was very excited. Who wouldn’t be?
I first watched the film towards the end of January. It didn’t hit me in the same way that it hit everybody else but I’m willing to give it another shot. The thing about comedy is that it’s subjective. To be fair, it probably wasn’t the best idea to watch this film on the morning after watching CODA and Summer of Soul. If there’s one thing I’ve learned about myself during the pandemic, it’s that I need to watch comedies with an audience. I’m not going to say that this film didn’t work for me because this pandemic has seen one depression after another. It’s certainly affected the lens in which I viewed anything over the past year!
Because of awards season being what it is this year, the film was sent out too late to qualify for many awards groups. We’ll certainly see if it’s allowed to qualify later this year. You never know! One song, “I Love Boobies” was eligible for the Oscars but didn’t advance to the short list.
