Joe Rogan Joins Netflix Line of Transphobic Specials

Joe Rogan is the latest comedian to join the Netflix line of transphobic “comedy” specials headlined by the likes of Dave Chappelle.

I do not watch any of the transphobic specials streaming on Netflix. Any “comedy” special that punches down at a marginalized community is certainly not a comedy special that I would watch, let alone endorse. Rogan, as we all know, comes with no shortage of controversy. Remember all those artists who decided to withdraw from Spotify over the platform hosting his podcast while he spewed no shortage of conspiracy theories. According to Variety, it appears some of those same conspiracy theories are going to find their home on Netflix. Will this be enough for Reed Hastings and Ted Sarandos to draw the line? I doubt it. They have a long history of defending transphobic hate speech on their platform. Click their names to see what they’ve said in the past and how this transgender writer has responded.

As for Rogan, he went after the Covid-19 vaccine while–again–endorsing more conspiracy theories. Is this really what you want, Ted? Do you really want to be known as the guy who defended Rogan going after Michelle Obama? I mean, really. HE WENT THERE! Even if he jokingly says he was kidding, he went after the former First Lady of the United States of America! Rogan went after transgender men for their ability to get pregnant before going after the larger transgender community such as myself.

Here’s what he said:

“I’m open-minded,” he said. “I just want to know what happened. It’s almost like a pervert wizard waved a magic spell on the whole world. ‘With a wave of this wand, you can walk into the women’s locker room with a hard cock, and anybody who complains is a Nazi, Abracadabra!’ And it just works! And everyone accepts this is the new reality, and it’s fucking weird.”

And here we are again, on the evening of August 3, 2024. This time, Rogan is spewing more hate, only it is on the Netflix platform in what was billed as a live “comedy” special. But to call it comedy would mean that the humor would have to be funny, right? This why I cannot get behind calling it a comedy special. Because it is not. It is just another platform for spewing hate and it is time for Ted Sarandos to say enough is enough.

Please Ted, I beg of you to stop defending a comedian’s free speech when they are using it for hate. Draw the line somewhere. For America. It is hurting Netflix in the long-term when you continually defend allowing comedians to spew hate speech on the platform. Enough is enough!
